Properties of the targets can easily be studied by changing search criteria without making any
real searches. The results can be seen when they are right for sure and thus frustrating
wrong searches can be avoided.
Countlet is a highly commercialized search engine for Internet services that is independent on
platforms and terminals. It can be added to existing services, replacing an old search
engine or located next to it. Service’s old product pages and other parts can be in use as
they are. Money and time can be saved when building a new service as the search engine is
parametrized in a couple of hours. Countlet works on PCs and wireless terminals as well.
Countlet is based on the same architecture as Maplet, therefore to tranform the service
to a map-based one is easy to do. The modern multi-tier architecture enables work load to
be devided on various components, and thus making the solution very flexible. The
application has clear interfaces to be connected to Web services and data storages. Data
contents of the search engine are parametrized. The user interface is defined by using XML,
which makes the definition of the layout for different terminals and user groups very quick.
Countlet’s user interface has been implemented with Java programming language, which enables
immediate feedback to the user. The size of result set will change in real time even when
moving the Almare slide bar. This has been made possible by the efficient cache memory
solution of the Maplet server that makes load really small on database even compared to a
traditional HTML-based search form solution.
Countlet is implemented with Java 1.1 version, it works in the most commonly used browsers
without any installation of utility programs.
